Precison and reliability in automatic determination of solution viscosity

The RPV-1 Pulp & Cellulose Viscometer system automatically measures the viscosity of a solution of pulp or paper dissolved in cupriethylendiamine (also known as CED or Cuene).

Using calibrated Ubbelohde glass viscometers for determination of flow times, the RHEOTEK RPV-1 offers the precision of a manual measurement and the convenience of a fully automatic system. The built-in self cleaning system is highly efficient & ensures that the glass capillary and the sample tubes are cleaned 100 per cent before each new measurement.

A unique Nitrogen purging system removes oxygen from the sample path and the test vial reducing the risk of sample oxidation significantly.

The viscosities of the test solution and also that of the solvent (CED solution) are determined at the test temperature with optical timing sensors. The RPV software automatically calculates the relative viscosity, intrinsic viscosity (or limiting viscosity number) degree of polymerisation, K-value or Kinematic viscosity.

The RHEOTEK RPV-1 complies with the following standards: ISO 5351:2004, SCAN CM 15:99, ASTM D 1795, TAPPI 230 – OM94, PAPTAC G.24P and ASTM D 4243. These methods are included in the software. Other methods can be included on request.
