Fast & precise viscosity results for oil products

Five minutes to test a diesel, 15 minutes for a black residual fuel oil. During that time the viscosity is measured, the result is calculated & the instrument is cleaned, leaving it ready for the next sample.

The VA 300 is a fully automated multi purpose petroleum viscometer. It is an all-inclusive package with integrated temperature control, a heated autosampler & an efficient cleaning cycle. It is particularly suitable for measuring:

  •  Gas oils (diesel)
  •  Base oils and lubricants
  •  Residual fuels

Residual fuel oils are a particular headache in many laboratories. The sticky, black oil has a habit of getting stuck in autosamplers & automatic viscometers, forcing laboratory technicians to revert to the time-consuming process of measuring the samples by hand.

The PhasePSL VA 300 offers a way of automating viscosity measurement of black oils without these problems. The instrument is optimised for the handling of residual oils featuring a heated autosampler rack, a heated transfer tube & an individually adjustable cleaning cycle, which can be optimized for each individual customer.

The patented design is based on the manual method of measuring two flow times in a capillary viscometer. The fast results are obtained by using pressurized air as the driving force instead of gravity.

This means shorter flow times & faster results.

The precision of the VA 300 meets or exceeds requirements set out in ASTM D445 for all measurements.

The PhasePSL VA 300 complies with automated viscosity test method IP 543 "Determination of the dynamic viscosity of distillate & residual fuel oils and calculation of kinematic viscosity – automatic capillary tube method."
